Following a selection process among dozens and sometimes hundreds of general practitioners, future plastic surgeons are selected.
The residency that these candidates must complete is a new period of study, during which, as its name indicates, they practically reside in the hospital. During these years, the resident doctor, with a very basic and general knowledge of surgery, receives in-depth, supervised and complex surgical training, which at the end of 14 or 16 years will turn him into a specialist.
Reconstructive experiences in cancer surgery, burn surgery, and surgery for accident victims will teach this physician about the importance of restoring the function and aesthetic experiences of these patients, as well as nurturing him in aspects such as beauty and harmony.
They will learn that both knowledge are necessary and inseparable to achieve the best result in plastic surgery.
Furthermore, experience will be necessary to resolve complications specific to the specialty and, to a greater extent, to correct those produced by intruders in the field of plastic surgery.
Don't be confused by those who base their learning on a few theoretical courses and call themselves specialists.
Therefore, if you are thinking about undergoing a cosmetic procedure, strive for excellence; do not risk your health and integrity.
